As a more recent disgorgement, this needed quite a lot of encouragement and air to open up a little. Oaky, as usual with this producer, and with a heavy presence of pinot noir fruit: a concentrated bouquet of red fruits with predominant cranberries and blackberries; a floral touch of violet, lavender and potpourri; some woody and balsamic notes as coconut, pepper, vanilla, and a hint of cinnamon; quite mineral with wet stones, and on the finish some signs of gentle oxidation, but also some grapefruit bitterness.
The acidity was very high throughout the bottle, making it hard to fully enjoy. It’s far too young right now (as we know, 2008 is a vintage that will age well for many years) and needs more time for the acidity to become balanced; even so, the wine is voluptuous, dense, and coats the palate leaving a full sensation, surely with a very interesting future ahead. To revisit.
