Sunday, September 20, 2020 - Watching the 49'ers vs Jets injury brigade with Walter (wearing masks, social distance). 2 hour decant. Purple in color. On the nose I get dark fruit and a little cigar box. Initially somewhat tannic and chalky, but after 20 minutes, this subsides. On the palate, I get cassis, blueberries and a bit of leather. Walter says "cinnamon", similarly I'm thinking nutmeg. Walter says "the peak may have been a year ago". Because of the initial tannin,I'm thinking the peak may be a year away. We'll see. Still, a very nice wine for a California cabernet from the "troubled" 1998 vintage.
