Thursday, December 31, 2020 - Color is rich straw to light gold. Nose: softly floral, a little high-pitched synthetic lemon, cream soda, peach gummy candy. Palate: soft, low acidity through the mid-palate, some nice viscosity, a fair bit of heat (surprising for Viognier at only 13.5% alcohol), a bit disjointed and bitterly sharp/overtly acidic at the back. No evidence of new oak. Viognier is hard to do right. This is not quite getting there. The aromatics are pretty good, the weight is good, but as is often the case with this grape the acidity and structure are lacking. Don’t get me wrong, this wine smells and tastes very nice. We polished off a bottle no problem. But I don’t understand the rave reviews from either the critics or my fellow CTers. 13,5%, $25.
