Monday, January 18, 2021 - I expected rustic, bretty wine but this is not that at all. It’s very pretty with lots of garrigue, fresh berry fruit, flowers, some leather. M to M+ body, M acid, M- or lower tannin, good concentration, a reasonably long finish. Alcohol is relatively low at 13.5% and doesn’t show at all. There’s a perception of sweetness but I’m not sure it’s from actual residual sugar, and just adds to the pretty floral character. Not a big wine but a serious one with a lot of depth and beauty and far more sense of place than you could reasonably hope for at this price. Strangely this was a really nice pairing with salty and spicy mapo tofu; it didn’t clash at all and the pretty floral, berry notes worked really well with Sichuan peppercorn and fermented black bean. Exceptional qpr—I paid $27 and this is easily worth $40-50. My first from this domaine but definitely not my last. 7.7/10
