Tuesday, June 1, 2021 - Medium ruby color with some bricking, showing slightly advanced for a 2017 Montestefano. Open and radiant, with seductive notes of cherries, menthol, leather, some tar, crushed roses, some cedar wood. It‘s medium+ bodied, doesn‘t have the mid-palate persistence of the best vintages (like 2013), but overall round and seductive. There is medium-high tannin that is a little rough and some medium+ acidity providing some freshness. Medium length. Clearly a product of a warmer vintage, with the tannin being a touch rough, acidity a little lower and not the same depth as in the best vintages. Still an enjoyable wine for the next 5+ years or so. I don‘t think that it will age as long as some of the other vintages. If I might sound a little too critical, it‘s totally delicious but this producer is so great, that I got a little spoilt over the years.
