95 Points

Friday, December 23, 2005 - I've been drinking a lot of '94 to '98 wines from my favorite Washington producers lately, and the two most consistently excellent wines during that time - by far - are Andrew Will's Sorella and Quilceda Creek's cab. They are very different wines, so it's fun to compare them. The '98 QC is still quite young and stern, but there's just unbelievable depth to it. It's fantastic now, but will improve and last a very long time. To me, it is the most similar to the '94 of all the vintages since then. The '98 Sorella is much more mature. It is lush and seamless, with no hard edges whatsoever. Great balance, with a bit more complexity than the QC is showing now, although it doesn't come close to matching the other wine's concentration. There's no question in my mind that Sorella is the best blend being made in Washington.
