Wednesday, July 7, 2021 - 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape 99/100 point wine taste-off (and a couple of pirate Rhone wines): A 2003 Clos des Papes was thrown into the mix, along with a couple of Mordoree Plum Peintre (2003 and 2005). The Clos was the freshest of the older wines, with an earthy profile that spit out wild raspberry fruit and more advanced flavors of oolong tea, leather, and bark. Bitter cherry and plum skin add interest.
