Friday, August 20, 2021 - This is August but the weather actually feels more like mid autumn so why not drink a 43 years old Bordeaux! We didn't have too high expectations with this one. This was our first Chateau Clarke oddly enough but through the years people have said it was not worth seeking out. But this was very interesting to taste. by no means dead, actually very much alive! The colour was a deep ruby translucent with bricking on the rim. The nose was a little dirty at first with some cellar funk and mushrooms so we decanted it for an hour and that revealed a lot of tobacco, gaze and dried red fruits. The tannins were totally dissolved and the wine was silky smooth with even more tobacco and gaze. burnt dry leaves, wet soil and dried fruits. There was even a touch of trompets of death. The finish was not very long but very harmonious. A lovely surprise from Bordeaux. Drink up before the last of the fruit fades away.
