2005 Chateau Musar

Community Tasting Note

Wednesday, April 20, 2016 - Cork, 14% alc. Deep crimson red, with a beautiful brightness to the hue.

A bretty, barnyard aroma dominates initially, along with a fair whack of resinous oak. Then blackberry, VA, leather, and formic acid appear. Quite complex nose, and very enticing.

Fantastic feel in the mouth. Initial bursts of fruit spread across the tongue, filling all corners of the mouth. Floury tannins grip the mouth and pull the wine into focus. Heavyweight, akin to a 1990s Australian Shiraz from a warm year. Alcohol sticks out a little, and the length is a slight letdown compared to the rest of the palate, however it is still decent.

Opinion: Reminds me of a 5 year old blend of Bin 707 and Mt Edelstone. Presents more like a Cabernet on day 2 with blackcurrant, blackberry, licorice, and cedar. Slippery mouthfeel.

3/22/2022 5:34:00 AM - Useful note thanks. Did you PnP or decant?
I'm planning on taking a Mag to a dinner next week and was planning on double decanting the night before

3/22/2022 5:55:00 AM - Quite a few wines have been consumed in the 6 years since tasting this Musar, so my memory is a little hazy…

I’m pretty confident that it was consumed over a couple of days, with part of the bottle decanted an hour or two before drinking on day 1.

3/26/2022 12:18:00 AM - thanks for coming back - Sorry, I hadn't picked up that your TN was from 6yrs ago, I thought it had come up as one of the more recent ones in the list :) really appreciate you still trying to assist though. Chapeau

3/26/2022 7:22:00 AM - No worries. I’ve made the same mistake a few times. It’s an old tasting note of mine, but one that I just typed up and entered in CT only recently. Hence the reason it appeared near the top of the recent notes.
