Sunday, April 24, 2022 - 95-96: Cerro Sur 2014 by Favia is a blend of 83% Cabernet Franc and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon that was paired as the protagonist wine to the pork carnitas lettuce wraps and homemade slaw. This wine is a full bodied, black cherry dense wine that touches on the black fruit side of things but then stays right on the line and gives you awesome herbal character with dates, ripe figs, black plums, hint of orange peel, baking spice in the middle with a ton of black pepper on the finish. The tannins are softer and rounded and the ancho in the carnitas and poblano in the slaw were quite complementary. Coming into a really good place right now, this wine is structured, balanced and ready to go with just about zero decant. Drink now or hold for 10-15 years.
