Tuesday, March 3, 2020 - Giving this high marks for both how well it represented the varietal and for the value. First, these wines can sometimes be almost "ageless". I always find it remarkable to pull a cork on a 10yr kabinett or here a 20+ yr Auslese and it's like tasting a sample on release. I recalled that this Auslese had a lower sweetness profile than the designation and brought to a lunch to pair with a roasted pork dish. It had some younger & drier Rielsings in the flight it ultimately was in, but boy did it show well. Shimmered in the glass, focused with lip smacking acidity. No edges, silky and delicious. Stone fruits, faint petrol in the background but it's really all about the fruit, which I liked. Lithe. Enjoyed sharing this with a knowledgeable table of industry folk that appreciated how it showed.
