Wednesday, April 20, 2022 - My second uber-Merlot in a row. One hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Cork was difficult, and the wine threw off quite a bit of chunky sediment, much of which remained attached to the bottle. Boysenberry aromas came forth during decant. After resting in the decanter: wine was clear; it did not show its 30 years of age and was dark purple in the bowl with just a slight lightening on the rim. There was no halo. Nose was plums, blackberries, bitter chocolate and some alcohol. In the mouth: deep black fruits, dark chocolate. No flab. Alcohol was noticeable in the mouth but not unpleasant or out of balance. Tannins were soft but present. Long finish with the bitter chocolate as the highlight. Beautiful wine which would have compared favorably with high-end Pomerols had they been tasted together. Wonderful wine.
