Wednesday, September 14, 2011 - Was pretty surprised to see this at my favorite local wine bar on the list by the glass. Not complaining, just thought this was outside the price range of affordable by the glass. Glad to be proven wrong. Not sure this is the best Pellegrini I have ever tasted, but definitely a big step above what we usually drink in pinot by the glass. The color is dark magenta, but we can still see our 2 fingers. True pinot nose, with some earth and mushrooms behind the strawberry fruit. On the palate we get cranberry accenting the strawberry and red raspberry. There are some significant young, almost rough tannins. Not quite medium bodied. The mid palate is slightly less than the nose and initial fruit impression suggest. but still a complete and balanced mouth full of luscious pinot we can afford. Well integrated oak and acid profile. A little tannic on the finish, but this would age out if we could put this away for a few years. Nice job.
