Friday, July 8, 2011 - Decanted about 3 hours prior to consumption. The oak showed a big, obtrusive sort of way. Big notes of coconut and pickles on the nose. Plenty of fruit with low extraction but nice density. Lots of acid. The oak stole the show that night. Took the half bottle home and forgot about it for an extra day.
Two days later the oak has relaxed leaving a strong spice presence, something like bay leaf and tobacco. Lean feeling palate with light tannin. Much more pleasant now though it still seems to say it needs time. Leave this alone for a few more years at least. Terrific potential. Their 01 Gran Reserva must be off the charts.
