So I found it a tad oaky, but beneath all that liquid lumber is a potentially very good wine. And I hasten to add that I expect and enjoy the strong influence of American oak in traditional Rioja, including the wines of La Rioja Alta which are typically among the oakiest. But for me, and at least for this stage in its evolution, the wood is simply too dominant and unintegrated.
