Friday, June 22, 2007 - Wonderful wine! Tasted in a vertical of Dominus including 1990, 1991, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2004 and a 1986 Montelena. The 1994 was WOTN. Of this lineup, the 1990 was over the hill (NR), the 1996 (88 pts.) was the weakest of the remainging wines, the 1995 was the brightest with more acidity than the others (93 pts). The 1992 (94 pts) split the difference between the 1991 (96 pts) and 1994 in that the '92 was a fleshy, lower acid wine. The '91 was very structured, higher in acidity and less round than either the '92 or '94. The '94 was lower in acid than the '91, but still had structure, and was deeper and richer. The 1997 (95 pts) was also very good. The '01 (91 pts) tasted very young compared to the others and needs time. The '04 (NR) may be in a clumsy period or there was a huge shift in winemaking. It tasted more Foleyesque with an enormous amount of new oak.
