Friday, September 28, 2007 - Still purplish with a hint of red. Beautiful nose of dark currants, with lovely barnyard funkiness, very complex. Emphasis here - the aromatics are quite beguiling. Palate is medium to full bodies, with excellent extract, and quite concentrated flavors of currents, plums, perhaps some olives thrown in, and a note of mulberry. Fine grained tannins give an impression of density but aren't obtrusive. Bice balance, with enough acidity to carry the wine through a very pleasant and long finish. I think the wine has room for further improvement, but as CA cabs go, this is the best I've tasted in a long time. Bravo! Where is Chris Pheolps now?
