Sunday, March 31, 2013 - Looks older than its age - bricking and browning, with veils of deposit to decant away. The maturing nose has all the complexity and depth of an old traditional barolo, with notes such as leather, porcini, truffles, farine, menthol, balsamico, dried rose petals, dried plum, raspberry redux, liquorice and undergrowth. The palate is still full of energy, with sweet sun-ripe etna fruit and tannins that are grippy and rustic in a peculiar old-school way. Only problem is the finish, which looses the balance to alcohol (14,5%) especially after our lambshank is finished. Anyway, a truly special wine, "original" in the primary meaning of the word.
