Monday, March 20, 2017 - Nose: The nose is quite meaty and savory with black cherries, raspberries, earth, peppery notes, tobacco, Violets, and cranberry notes. There is almost a Côte-Rotie-esque take to the nose though it clearly retains its Burgundian sensibilities.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity and medium tannins. The tannins are more fine grained and silky with black cherries, raspberries, meaty notes, earth tones, fresh cracked black pepper, and violets.

Overall: It's funny as people will sometimes mention how some Côte-Rotie almost tastes like Burgundy, and yet, this is nearly a reverse take. That is not to take away from what clearly is a stellar example of Savigny-Les-Beaune that also is in need of more age. It speaks to the quality of the Domaine and the land. This is a Burgundy for those that want something original and true whilst eschewing something made for more international palates.
