Thursday, June 23, 2011 - Spectacular, soaring aromas of gravel dust, clove spice, freshly ground nutmeg, scortched earth, crushed cranberries and strawberries, and morel mushrooms cooked in truffle oil. It's amazing how powerful the aromas are with the nose in the glass. Beautiful stuff. The palate is medium bodied, starting with some really tart red fruit, then getting into some impressively juicy, almost candied fresh strawberries, light gravel dust, and only slight tannins build on the tongue. The finish is spicy, with plentiful strawberries, dust, and spice. Really nice acid carries deep into the finish, which isn't overly evolving, but juicy and delicious. A bit more closed than the 2007 was when I had it, but again impressive stuff here. Perhaps this should be held for a couple years but still, I wouldn't plan to hold these much longer than 10 years as the structure isn't too deep.
