Monday, August 19, 2019 - Remains the colour of blue-black ink, this is now somewhat shut down and a brooding monster of a wine. Quite atypical for the Chateau, but perhaps reflective of the monumental vintage.... now is not the time to be opening 2010 high-end Bordeaux, right or left bank.
Extended decanting reveals tell-tale violets, dark fruits, mint, liquorice, dark chocolate and hints of tobacco. The wine is multi-layered with extraordinary length and complexity, but the tannins are lurking and this requires at least another decade of careful cellaring before it's potential will start to reveal itself.
For mine, still the best-ever from this Chateau, a wine for the ages, and surely amongst the top dozen of this superb vintage.
98+ points, drink: 2030-2060.
