Saturday, April 30, 2005 - Magnum tasted with dinner at Gary Danko in San Francisco. The wine was served at cellar temperature and decanted within 30 minutes of the first course. This wine is drinking beautifully at this point. Incredible aromas including black fruits, floral and perfume qualities. The tanins were supple to begin with, but are now even more silky and integrated after some years of bottle age (8 at this point). The wine showed impressive structure and was tremendously big. I offered the somelier a taste and he agreed that the wine was still young and lively. He was at Charlie Trotter's in Chicago before joining Danko so I really trust his palate. This wine is ready to drink now and seems like it will continue to improve for the forseeable future.
