Thursday, December 12, 2019 - Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour. Clear deep dark garnet-blood red color. Volatile savory notes at first, with green tobacco, meat juice, black olive tapenade, and soy sauce. After two hours, these subsided to reveal a lovely classic bouquet of blackberries, boysenberries, black and red cherries, black and red currants and their liqueurs; fennel, anise, earthy mushrooms, sage and bay leaf. Similar on the palate, full body, seamless, beautiful balance, polished tannins, lingering finish. Improved steadily with air, held up fine under vacuum stopper in refrigerator for four days, showing best on day two. This particular bottle seems fully mature or perhaps past-prime. Excellent wine but not worth the current auction price.
