Saturday, December 26, 2015 - I have to say this is probably the best American red I've had all year. What struck me about this wine was the purity of flavor - the amazingly fresh nose of dark rich fruit, forest floor, and spices that all come together so well. Tannins and acidity are present but not overly so. Despite the relative lack of tannins, the wine still really held together extraordinarily well for three hours in the glass, and in my opinion, shows no signs of slowing down in the coming years. The finish was 25-30 seconds with amazingly very little evolution as the night wore on. I know that many would say that a fairly mass-produced wine that is not a single vineyard product does not merit this high a score, but I'd have to dare those people to blind-taste this vs a Harlan since they are made in a very similar style. Among the best of California fruit-driven wine is contained within this bottle, just an absolutely terrific effort.
