Monday, June 20, 2016 - from magnum. decanted one hour (quite a bit of sediment.) still deeply colored, not purple, but appearing younger in the glass; anise, currant jam & earthy elements dominate the nose; med-full body, but not as dense as some vintages; rich in dark red fruits (red & black raspberries) w/significant earthy & iron components, particularly noteworthy for the absence of over-extracted characteristics or raisining; followed over 3 hours, seems to be at peak (in this format, at least) with more refinement & claret-like qualities than some years of Insignia. Became silkier & more supple over the evening.
grilled lamb loin chops w/oil-cured olives & lamb jus; grilled ratatouille, fingerling potatoes w/rosemary. Happy Father's Day to me!
