90 Points

Monday, March 2, 2009 - This wine has made me nervous for a long time. I had to pour out 6 bottles of ’98 Sauzet Champs Gains that were all PMOXed to death. So this wine sat there and I knew it might just be a $200 POS. Decided to go for it. No PMOX!!!! While not the best Montrachet I have ever had this was pretty nice and considering I thought it might be DOA I enjoyed it immensely. Pairing it with a lobster roll and a lobster claw served with clarified butter didn’t hurt either. This was less racy and stony than I expected and really was a wine that was about texture. While not creamy or oily it definitely had a softness to it that was appealing. Flavors were along the lines of ripe pear and Golden Delicious apple. Not much in the way of layers so the complexity was less than one might hope for but overall appealing for its lush texture and rich flavor profile. Glad we opened it now. Don’t think this is one for the long haul PMOX or no.
