Thursday, January 22, 2009 - 14.2% alcohol. Deep red color with bricking at the rim of the glass. The color looks riper than the wine's palate indicates. Very Hirsch bouquet of black cherry, minerals, damp earth, and a hint of mushrooms. In the mouth, round yet linear, with plenty of juicy black cherry and blackberry fruit, which is bolstered by nicely layered complexity: earth, minerals, mushrooms, a touch of the floral. It's that distinct Sonoma Coast earthiness that I really like here. Good acidity. Long finish. Pretty wine. A-
