92 Points

Sunday, September 9, 2012 - Solid, dark, and opaque purple showing off its concentration. High viscosity leaves dark streaks forming from the ridge formed after the swirl. Day bright reflection. Wine was slowly poured into decanter to help avoid evident sediment and to help this big boy air out.
Complex with depth. Bold aromas of bacon fat, chocolate, fig paste, black plum and plum sauce, blackberry, thyme, violets, and baking spices.
On the palate rich, dense flavors of blackberry pie, mashed mission fig, plum, coffee, black licorice, green tobacco leaf, dark brown sugar and vanilla. Ripe well integrated tannins are matched and balanced with acidity. Both provide structure to this full bodied wine. The finish carries weight and is long lasting. The alcohol though high is well integrated into this wine.
Similar to the '06. This however is more ripe and decadent. Hedonistic!
