Sunday, May 5, 2013 - A big, serious Cabernet-lover's Merlot, which is meant to be consumed with food rather than for casual consumption. Ruby, medium (+) intensity, with no signs of ageing. The palate is dry, the acidity, tannins and minerality are medium. The alcohol is medium (+). The label identifies it at 16.9%, but the wine maker says it is even higher. Somehow, however, the alcohol is not really that noticeable, which is a testament to the wine-making skills and balance of this wine. Red fruit flavors with liquorice and earth on the finish. Drink now through 2017. I don't think it will reward longer cellar ageing. Very good, although not a particularly good value at $66.
