Saturday, November 5, 2011 - In the past, I haven't been a huge fan of sweet wines but luckily I decided to give this Woot offering a try. I was very pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this.
The nose initially offers strong cherry and caramel and, after opening up a while, ends with a welcome hint of tobacco.
I had imagined an overwhelmingly thick, jammy mouthfeel but was met instead with something much more palatable and enjoyable, with a good amount of acid and a tiny amount of tanins to counter what is decidedly "thicker" than most wines I enjoy. Very concentrated cherry, strawberry and caramel with a hint of apple/pear meet the tongue without feeling overly sweet. The taste is topped off with something like oak and black pepper to make it more than just a fruity experience.
I am enjoying this thoroughly on it's own. Again--such a pleasant surprise. I only wish I had purchased more.
