Sunday, November 26, 2023 - It's amazing to taste this marvelous wine at 61 years old! The top of the cork was a pure black disintegrated mess, but the cork came out intact with the Durand, and after cleaning things up I decanted the bottle, which had a moderate to low amount of sediment at the bottom.

The nose on the wine shows forest floor galore and loads of beautiful dark, perfectly ripe fruits (blackberries and mulberries). On the palate, the wine is silky smooth with loads of fruit, and a very persistent and long finish. It's incredible the amount of rich fruit that remains here at age 61.

As a side note, at first, the finish on the wine had a metallic and/or moldy and bitter flavor. The dense beautiful wine showed through, but this note on the finish was concerning. The wine was around 55 degrees at that point, having just been brought up from the cellar. After an hour+ of air and warming by hand in the glass, the odd finish has gone away. The wine has no trouble taking loads of air - it is not fading a bit. As I write this note, it's been open and in the decanter for an hour and a half, and it is showing beautifully!
