Saturday, December 17, 2016 - Rich, oaky and warm weather notes of tropical fruit, lemon rind, nuttiness and a complement of soil complexity. Vire Clesse seems to offer a warmer, more woody, dare I say rustic, expression of Chardonnay in general. Can feel a bit cluttered and rich, rather than the perfumed and elegant precision you expect in fine Burgundy. Enjoyable, with good freshness and density on the palate, but I've yet to have a Vire Clesse that strikes me as grand or refined.
