Thursday, January 15, 2015 - Wine Session - Theme: Quirky Wines (Pine Close): It displayed a lot more complexity on the nose and palate. Lots of dark fruits, earthiness, and oak, but this was not a blockbuster wine. Medium bodied, and quite restrained in style. Tannins were quite elegant. My friend commented that it had a distinct "crayon" nose? I thought it tasted quite Spanish! Zinfandel dominant wine at 64%, blended with 20% Carignane, 12% Petite Sirah, 2% Alicante Bouschet, 2% Mataro (Mourvedre). Now, that's an interesting blend? To most of us, this was the WOTN.
