Monday, April 6, 2015 - It was a pleasure to drink an earlier-vintage Vieux - more understated and friendly than, for example, 07, 09 or 10. Very black purple with a hint of alcohol on the nose but mostly earth, lilac and ripe black plum. In the mouth there is a bit of spice cake and a long melange of black fruit flavors, ending with a bit of sweet tannin and pepper. Long finish that gently tapers away. All in balance and pleasing. This was in the magnum format so perhaps a bit behind 750 evolution - my impression was that visiting this in ten years would be fine and probably a fair bit better than today. And today was pretty darn good.
