Sunday, July 28, 2019 - This wine started out a bit "wobbly" with some funky aromas and slightly stewed elements but righted itself nicely after just 15 minutes or so in the glass. Coming out with a still dark red slightly tinged with purple, the fruit structure on this was still intact - plums, raspberries, a bit of licorice all nicely combined with some still (slightly) present tannins to produce a nicely integrated effort. After about an hour or so the wine got even better, with the fruit coming to the foreground a bit more, making me regret not decanting it (bottle also had a lot of sediment). Stood up to some very strong food, nice finish, 20 seconds+. I'd say close to peak, maybe a few years left on this but a nice crowdpleaser at present.
