90 Points

Sunday, December 11, 2022 - Stood up for a few weeks and decanted off 2oz of sediment. Light ruby with significant bricking consistent with its age; aromatic, roses, significant balsamic, savory tamari; palate is light bodied, well integrated tannins, superb sweet and savory interplay with soy and balsamic, high but balanced acidity gives the wine vibrancy and lift, balanced 13.5% alcohol, fruit is mostly faded but plenty of tertiary sweetness to replace it; finish is medium length. A very lovely, fully mature Monforte Barolo, at the right time to drink it. 90
2 hours decanted: Largely unchanged, not better or worse. Well balanced overall, though on the simpler side for an aged barolo.
