Friday, March 1, 2024 - A trio of Guiraud tonight: 2009, 2010, 2011. We had them at first alone, then with « foie gras poêlé » as a starter and then at the end with dessert.
The clear winner was the 2010: a classic of classics. Superb thick, almost oily mouth. Great concentration of fruits, a little acidity to keep it balanced. We were two giving it a 99 (ok maybe we were overenthusiastic and should have give it a 98 instead). One gave it a 96 and the fourth a 93. She found the little bitter orange taste not to the her liking. I thought it gave a wonderful complexity.
The 2009 was also superb: 96 for me and 95-97 for everyone. It had an irresistible marmelade taste and a complex finish.
The 2011 was simpler but also excellent: 94,4999 for me, 95 for the others.
The three were at the beginning of their drinking window but are so good now, why wait ?
