Friday, December 11, 2020 - The '64 Mascarello is a beautiful mature Barolo. The nose was nicely perfumed, fresh, and cool in tone, with very sweet red fruit, mint, smoked meats, and a heavy dose of earth. On the palate, it remains nicely concentrated with sweet red fruit, smoke, and earth, adding some fresh mint towards the long, sweet finish. It's a gorgeous wine, with the signature sweetness, freshness, and cool tones I keep finding in aged Mascarello. This appeared to be a perfect bottle with an excellent cork. Compared to a '58 tasted recently, the '64 showed more earthiness and a bit less power.
