Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - If you’re curious about carmenere, quench your curiosity with a bottle of 2008 Terrunyo Carmenere. Grown in the Cachapoal Valley of Chile in the Puemo vineyard, these carmenere grapevines were planted in alluvial clay in 1990. The 2008 grapes produced a concentrated, dark ruby colored wine, high in alcohol and tannin. Possessing elements of blackberry, pepper and heavy mineral on the nose and palate, this camanere is true to its terroir. On the negative, though carmenere shares similarities with cabernet sauvignon, it falls short when it comes to the finish. This wine could find perfection with a bit more blending.
