Friday, January 3, 2020 - if you don't love old champagne, don't waste your time reading this note - medium gold color, no hints of orange - very fine bubbles that persisted for 1-2 hrs - beautiful old brioche nose with light to moderate oxidation, dried apples and pears, asian spices (Saigon cinnamon), and flinty minerality - full-bodied mouth with loads of very ripe apple/pear fruit, more oxidative flavors than in the nose - great acidity that provided a refreshing youthfulness to a mature champagne - longer finish than most red wines of the same age with a beautiful sweet aftertaste sans any hint of bitterness - I agree with earlier tasting notes that it combined both impressive power with delightful elegance - as much as I like La Grande Dame, I think this 90 is even more perfectly balanced (assuming that's possible!) - sad that his was my last bottle, but it was well worth waiting for
