Monday, October 12, 2015 - A blend of Macbeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo, 1/3 each, with a 10% addition of Chardonnay.

Pale greenish color. Enjoyably fruity and nuanced nose with aromas of ripe yellow fruits, some floral acacia honey tones, a little bit of autolytic, almond-driven nuttiness and a rich hint of honeydew melon. Nice! The wine is pretty light-bodied, fresh and crisp on the palate with rather rich flavors of yellow fruits, some nutty autolysis, a little bit of ripe honeydew melon, light spicy notes and a toasty hint of marzipan. The moderately high acidity lends good intensity to the wine, but the mousse feels rather aggressive and angular, lacking a bit finesse. The finish is long, ripe and somewhat autolytic with nuanced flavors of slivered almonds, marzipan, ripe red apples, some honey and a little bit of stony minerality.

I had no high expectations of this relatively inexpensive Cava, but it turns out that it most certainly punches above its weight. Nice ripe fruit and surprising autolytic complexity paired with nice fresh acidity. Not the most complex or interesting Cava out there, but at 10,99€ you'd expect a lot less. Terrific QPR, a reliable everyday fizz.
