Friday, May 20, 2022 - The '08 Pozzo dell'Annunziata is among the best Barberas I have tasted, and certainly at this age, it is holding up better than I could have imagined (that said, this was out of 3L for what it's worth).

The nose was beautifully perfumed with dark red cherry fruit, espresso, leather, and roasted meats. On the palate, the wine was medium-bodied with great inner sweetness and high acidity, and a very smooth texture with integrated tannins. The wine retained youthful, sweet dark cherry fruit notes alongside some savory characteristics of leather and spices.

It seems likely, at least out of this format, this could go another decade or more, but it was so enjoyable today, combining primary characteristics of sweet dark fruit, some savory complexity, and a perfect texture, so I don't know if it could get much better.
