92 Points

Wednesday, January 30, 2013 - Rich, deep straw-colored color with green highlights. Slightly oily appearance. Quite rich, but very fresh and youthful nose with aromas of fresh apple, some lime and a little stony minerality. On the palate the wine is bright, dry and focused with pure, lively flavors of ripe apple, citrus fruits and a hint of saline minerality. Quite high in acidity, giving the wine very crisp, almost mouth-puckering character. Lacking that heaviness and excess fat so typical of 2009 Rieslings. Very powerful, intense and mineral finish that segues into a persistent, fruitier aftertaste of fresh apple, some dried pineapple and finally hints of honeyed sweetness.

A very positive effort for a 2009 Riesling - focused, bright, structured and high in acidity. If served blind, I wouldn't guess this was a warm vintage wine. Great balance and harmony showing good Grand Cru intensity and structure but without excessive concentration. Furthermore, the wine feels almost painfully young at the age of 3 years - I'd guess the wine will start drinking nicely after a few more years and will probably peak after 10-15 years. Great stuff and definitely worth cellaring.
