Thursday, July 6, 2017 - Alc: 14.5%; Deep almost opaque black-red
A savoury influenced bouquet showing liquorice, damson jelly, tar, thick blackberry compote, backed black plums and melted dark chocolate (Lindt 70%).
An intense and sultry entry with a rather port-like perfume and generous alcohol, a full-throated big wine with power and ripeness. Flavours of date, damson, liquorice bark and baked fruits and spices. A densely structured wine, there is a dryness to the sinewy, powdery tannins, yet the fruit is coated in sweet glycerol, making it mouthcoating yet very extracted! Good concentration, this muscular, heavy-weight wine is slowly, after 14 years, starting to soften. The finish is long with date slivers, spice and spirity notes. Perhaps a little OTT for me personally.
