Saturday, July 11, 2020 - 2012 A to Z Pinot Noir (Oregon)
Although it’s never wrong to open a Pinot Noir at the 7 year mark, waiting an extra year can be particularly rewarding when dealing with a once-in-a-decade Oregon vintage. The seductive pale garnet hue was absolutely radiant in my glass. Aromas of pomegranate and mushroom announced the full fruit and umami to follow. Raspberry and cranberry notes were elegantly enlivened with acid freshness and well integrated oak. The flavours built slowly, expansively, almost overwhelming in scope and duration. Just when I thought this boondoggle of taste would never end, it softened and dissipated into the void leaving my quivering tongue ready for a nap while still craving just one more slurp...and a shower.
