Sunday, July 14, 2019 - 2011 Jean Tardy Vosne-Romanee “Vigneux”

Considerably more evolved than in the fall, and showing more truly to its appellation. This is somewhat rustic, but also dense, and layered. While I like it very much, could see it not being everyone’s cup of tea. Speaking of tea, there are ample black tea notes on the finish here. This is good now, and I expect it will be better with time.

In the bigger picture, I think 2011 is underrated, but I also understand why some don’t prefer it. There can be a lot of acidity in these wines, they’re not particularly accessible in their youth. It lacks the ripeness that seems to draw the big numbers from reviewers. But so far I find myself liking it much as I have several other “lesser” vintages.
