Saturday, December 24, 2011 - A beautiful, still lithe, athletic, wine dressed very smartly in a sexy suit. I've had this in the cellar since purchased at the release along wit many others from many vintages. They get opened on occasions. This one is one of the most surprising. Color still bright red, thinning slightly at the edges. Aromas change from cedar, leather and moist wood, to some bright berries, dark cherries, violets, and then you go to take another sip and it's back to leather, spices, anise. Body is light, mouthfeel is not super textured, showing the tannins are soft and the balance of alcohol and acid are perfect. Lots of vibrant fruit flavors. I would think this near or at it's apex of age, except that there is still so much sexy fruit inside the tailored suit of tannins that it will still be good for awhile yet! Not you new world style, time for even those that have not had a love affair with French Bordeaux to see what a really good St Estephe Bordeaux with a little age is all about, then decide if you like it or not.
