Saturday, May 29, 2010 - I was a bit concerned about the deep color of this bottle so I opened it up. A bottle I had about a year ago from the same batch was a bit over the top. I did not purchase these bottles upon release so I don't know if they were mistreated. However, the bottle condition and fills were great. This wine displayed a gold center with yellow rims. The nose was heavy and oxidized at first but this mostly blew off after a couple of hours of air. The medium intensity nose was still a bit nutty and oxidized initially and then showed apples, toast, egg shell, and some tropical fruit as it aired in the glass.

In the mouth the wine was medium bodied with rich, ripe flavors and had good length. There was no oxidation in the mouth and a very interesting note of lavendar developed! This wine had a lovely, refined but creamy texture. It seems to be drinking well now with a couple of hours of air and I see no reason to defer gratification.

It would be nice to try a bottle from a different batch.
