Monday, November 25, 2019 - Developed and very translucent pomegranate red color with orange overtones and a pale golden-yellow rim. Developed and quite tertiary nose with aromas of beef jerky, some smoky tones, a little bit of wizened black cherries, light notes of sweet, lifted VA, sweet hints of cherry marmalade and raisins and a touch of soy sauce. Despite its rather tertiary nature, the wine doesn't smell too old, but instead still somewhat alive. The wine is moderately full-bodied, textural and rather tertiary on the palate with layered flavors of sweet wizened plums, some beef jerky, a little bit of ripe cranberry, light sour cherry bitterness, a hint of rusted iron and a lifted touch of sweet VA. The wine is still relatively tannic and somewhat grippy, but although the acidity feels very high, it feels surprisingly gentle and silky at the same time. The finish is developed, rich and textural with moderately grippy tannins and layered flavors of wizened red plums, sanguine iron, some wizened cranberries, a little bit of gamey meat, light stony mineral tones, a hint of sour cherry bitterness and a touch of volatile lift.

A very lovely, tasty and harmonious old Beaune red at its peak. The wine feels quite tertiary and developed, but it hasn't ventured into that anonymous "old red wine territory", but instead retains some nice sense of Burgundian elegance. Thanks to its quite impressive structure, the wine will most likely keep for many years more, but I really don't see any upside in keeping it any longer. Drink sooner rather than later. Simply excellent value at 39€.
