Wednesday, September 28, 2016 - Much better bottle then the previous bottle - in retrospect 1st bottle prob more flawed then I recognized. Perfectly drinkable and still enjoyable but clearly a bit over the hill at this point with loss of fruit and primarily secondary flavors present but in no way flawed or corked, just old. This bottle remains a reasonable QPR. No need to decant at this point and would definitely recommend drinking up any remaining holdings. As previously mentioned this is overall a very interesting wine, consistently one of the flagship bottlings from Chile's Valdivieso region and done in a typical sherry "solera" style with each bottling 50% that year's new blend and 50% from the ongoing solera so by definition this is NV - this #5 crazy horse edition was released in '04 with the 1st release (and start of the current solera) being in '94. Soft, deep red with bricking, medium bodied, acids present but tannins gone as well as most of the fruit gone and very little aftertaste. Nose soft and bright with acid, some red cherry and smoke with the flavor profile at this point somewhat acidic, minimally fruity and primarily of evolved secondary more earthy flavors of granite, earth, leather and grilled meat. Hard to recommend this wine since at this point it is clearly a bit over the hill and not where this wine was intended to be. 3-5 years ago I think I would probably have rated it 2-3 points higher.
